obviously buying the aldi or dollar store version of anything is not good. Do you really believe Costco is selling bad avocado oil? What about organic, non-gmo cassava flour.

Can you provide alternatives to cassava flour?

thank you

I'm not sure costco even knows their avocado oil is bad. You can find more details about the study specifically, and which oils were bad, here: https://www.ucdavis.edu/food/news/study-finds-82-percent-avocado-oil-rancid-or-mixed-other-oils

I believe Chosen Foods is one of the only brands that is legit.

Regardless, I personally question the need for this novel, foreign, complex supply chain food. Tallow is readily available in our backyards, and we don't need to inadvertently fund drug cartels' money laundering operations: https://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanielparishflannery/2023/04/11/are-us-avocado-buyers-financing-the-cartel-conflict-in-mexico/?sh=10603e7b1017

Cassava flour is notorious for high heavy metal contamination, which would occur regardless of organic or not. Not all cassava has this problem, but you can see some of the issues the industry deals with here: https://www.facebook.com/TerrasoulSuperfoods/posts/the-dirty-truth-about-cassava-we-apologize-for-recently-being-out-of-stock-of-ou/2551207944953594/

Aside from that, myself, my wife, and many others that we know have a hard time digesting it. It is the most calorie dense starch source by a wide margin, which I think is funny because it is in many "diet foods", and thus it's unclear to me why that would be preferred over real food that we've been eating for centuries.

However, if all you are looking for is pure starch, it's likely not the worst thing you could be eating.

wow, thank you for such a detailed response. trashing my avo oil.

I only honestly use the cassava flour to dredge smelts for frying (in olive oil). What do you think would be a good substitute (allergic to almonds)?

I mean at that small dosage if it works for you then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Stress of worrying about food itself so much can cause its own problems.

If I were making it I would use kamut white flour (an ancient variety of wheat, https://breadtopia.com/) or ideally sourdough bread crumbs and fry it in ghee or olive oil.

Then again I am italian so this makes the most ancestral sense for me
